Josh Shapiro, Governor | Pennsylvania Government
Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh is scheduled to visit Philadelphia Works and tour the PA CareerLink at Suburban Station in Philadelphia. The visit will address recent changes to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work and reporting requirements resulting from a federal budget bill.
The Republican-led budget bill, passed by Congressional Republicans and signed by President Trump, introduces new mandates for certain SNAP recipients beginning September 1, 2025. These individuals must now report at least 20 hours per week—or 80 hours per month—of work, education, training, or volunteering. The scope of these requirements will increase through the fall of 2025.
Dr. Arkoosh will explain how Pennsylvanians who receive SNAP benefits can comply with these new obligations and discuss efforts by the Shapiro Administration to help eligible recipients maintain their benefits. DHS has launched an informational website with resources for SNAP recipients: https://www.dhs.pa.gov/work.
The event will include participation from Patrick Clancy, President and CEO of Philadelphia Works, as well as Representative Ben Waxman. A tour of PA CareerLink is set to begin at 10:45 AM on Thursday, September 25, followed by a press conference at 11:15 AM.
Media wishing to attend are required to RSVP with their names via email.
