Josh Shapiro, Governor | Pennsylvania Government
As part of the first national "Save a Life Day" on September 25, 2025, Pennsylvania officials will distribute free naloxone at the Perry County State Health Center in Newport. The event is organized by the Department of Health and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to emphasize the importance of naloxone access in preventing opioid overdoses.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Shapiro Administration to address substance use issues across Pennsylvania. The administration aims to engage individuals who use substances, prevent overdoses, reduce infectious disease transmission, and make treatment more accessible.
All 50 states are participating in "Save a Life Day" this year. At the Perry County event, there will be a live demonstration showing how to administer naloxone nasally.
Dr. Debra Bogen, Secretary of Health; Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Secretary of Drug and Alcohol Programs; Dr. Jennifer Wallace, Medical Director for the Bureau of Community Health Systems; and Brenda Iliff, Executive Director of the Cumberland-Perry Drug & Alcohol Commission, are scheduled to attend.
"The Shapiro Administration is taking a whole-of-government approach to engage Pennsylvanians who use substances, prevent overdoses, reduce infectious disease transmission, and provide accessible treatment."
Media representatives planning to attend must RSVP with their names via email.
