Lt. Governor Austin Davis, Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen, and Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys are scheduled to visit River Valley Health in Williamsport to highlight the importance of receiving annual flu vaccinations as the respiratory virus season approaches.

The Shapiro-Davis Administration has focused on providing Pennsylvanians with accessible and evidence-based vaccine information. Recently, the Department of Health released updated guidance aimed at helping both healthcare professionals and residents make informed decisions about vaccines.

This year’s flu vaccine has been revised to offer protection against severe illness caused by new variants of the virus. Healthcare providers advise that everyone aged six months and older should receive the flu shot.

According to health officials, certain groups face higher risks from respiratory illnesses, including individuals aged 65 and older, those with specific medical conditions, and people who are more likely to experience complications.

For most Pennsylvanians, insurance plans cover the cost of the flu vaccine. Those without adequate insurance can access free or low-cost vaccines at local State Health Centers or Federally Qualified Health Centers.

The event will take place at River Valley Health’s Community Room in Williamsport on September 30 at 1:00 PM. Other attendees will include Max Houseknecht Jr., CEO of River Valley Health; Christine Kavanagh, pediatric medical provider; and Derek Slaughter, mayor of Williamsport.
