The Arizona Department of Education has announced a multi-year collaboration with The Jed Foundation (JED), a nonprofit focused on protecting emotional health and preventing suicide among teens and young adults. This partnership aims to address youth suicide rates in Arizona through targeted training for school-based mental health professionals.

According to the department, nearly one in four students in Arizona seriously consider attempting suicide each year, and 10 percent actually make an attempt. In response, the Department of Education has worked with JED to develop a customized training program that aligns with state law ARS 15-120.

The initiative will provide an evidence-informed, two-hour course titled "Suicide Prevention for Arizona School Mental Health Professionals." The training is designed to equip participants with tools and strategies to identify and support at-risk students.

"This initiative, which complies with state law (ARS 15-120) will equip school-based mental health professionals statewide with an evidence-informed suicide prevention training course," the department stated.

The partnership reflects ongoing efforts by the state to reduce teen suicide rates and improve mental health resources in schools.
