Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller issued a statement following the confirmation of Kirsten Baesler as Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education.
“I want to congratulate Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Kirsten Baesler on her confirmation to the U.S. Department of Education. Her decades of experience in local and state education systems will benefit our shared mission of ensuring academic success for all students,” Miller said.
The CCSSO is a national nonprofit group composed of public officials who lead departments of elementary and secondary education across states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five extra-state U.S. jurisdictions. The organization focuses on providing leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on key educational issues. It also works to build consensus among its members and represents their perspectives to other organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
