The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has introduced a new hotline aimed at supporting students experiencing homelessness. The TEHCY Support Hotline offers immediate access to trained experts who can assist parents, educators, and caregivers with technical assistance, resources, and support.
“Families should never have to navigate the challenges of homelessness alone,” said Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath. “Now, educators, parents and caregivers can pick up the phone and immediately connect with someone who understands their situation and can guide them to the right resources.”
Alongside the hotline, TEA is providing a web-based intake form for submitting technical assistance requests at any time. The initiative also includes advanced data-tracking tools designed to improve coordination across Texas.
These efforts build on the existing TEHCY Regional Network, which partners with 20 Education Service Centers throughout the state to support more than 1,200 school systems. Regional ESC McKinney-Vento Liaisons offer direct support through professional development and outreach for students experiencing homelessness.
The TEHCY Web Portal serves as a central location for training materials, compliance guidance, and practical resources for identifying and serving homeless students.
Under the federal McKinney-Vento Act, school systems are required to identify, enroll, and support students facing homelessness. The expanded TEHCY Support program aims to help meet these requirements by giving families and educators quick access to statewide resources.
The TEHCY Support Hotline is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CST at 1-855-85TEHCY (1-855-858-3429).
