Zoie Saunders, Secretary | Vermont Agency of Education
The Vermont Agency of Education has released its weekly update highlighting several initiatives and resources for educators, students, and school administrators.
The Flexible Pathways team is inviting high school and college counselors to attend Dual Enrollment System office hours. These sessions will provide opportunities for collaboration and discussion on topics related to the Dual Enrollment System. Meetings are scheduled for October 22 at 9:30 a.m. and again at 3:00 p.m., with the same presentation offered at both times. No pre-registration is required.
Training sessions on Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Student Support Plans (SSP) are being offered to help school teams develop effective approaches to student behavior support. The two-part training will be held at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier on November 4 and December 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with registration open until October 20.
Another upcoming training, "Foundations of Trust: Relationship-Based Approaches to De-escalation," will take place at the Best Western Plus in Waterbury on November 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Educators interested in attending should register by October 24.
Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) office hours have resumed for the current school year. Sessions will be available every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m., covering topics such as working with students with autism, interviewing techniques, and safety planning.
In compliance with Vermont law requiring equal access to quality education, the Agency is conducting a beta test of self-assessment rubrics for District Quality Standards and Education Quality Standards. These refined rubrics are now available for download, and office hours for review will be held on October 15 and October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Pathways to Partnerships (P2P), along with Vermont ABLE Library and the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI), is organizing webinars about free audio books available through VT ABLE Library for students who cannot read standard print due to disabilities or reading difficulties such as dyslexia. Webinars are scheduled for November 10; one session is aimed at transition-aged students accompanied by an adult, while another session targets adults only.
The Agency also announced that its new staff directory is now live on its website homepage following recent organizational restructuring. The directory aims to facilitate more efficient communication between educators and Agency staff.
