Pennsylvania officials are preparing for the upcoming winter season by outlining safety measures, providing guidance for residents, and promoting job opportunities. PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Director of Maintenance John DelRicci discussed the state's readiness and encouraged public participation in winter safety efforts.
"Public safety is at the core of the Shapiro Administration's mission, and PennDOT and our partners are prepared for the season ahead," Secretary Carroll said. "We urge the public to be our teammates in making this season a safe one - prepare yourselves and your vehicles before winter begins. We also encourage people to apply to join our full-time or temporary teams to help serve our communities."
Travelers can access real-time information on nearly 40,000 miles of state-maintained roads through www.511PA.com. During winter, the website also provides updates on plow-truck locations and the timing of the most recent plowing. This information is enabled by PennDOT's Automated Vehicle Location technology, which tracks over 2,600 department-owned and rented plow trucks using cellular signals.
The announcement also highlighted employment opportunities with PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, encouraging residents to consider both full-time and temporary positions to support winter operations.
Speakers at the event included Mike Carroll, Secretary of PennDOT; Anthony Goreski, Delaware County Maintenance Manager for PennDOT; and John DelRicci, Director of Maintenance for the PA Turnpike.
