Eight schools across Louisiana have been named Louisiana Blue Ribbon Schools, according to an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE). The recognized schools, both public and nonpublic, are located in East Baton Rouge, Iberia, Jefferson, Lafayette, Livingston, Orleans, Terrebonne, and Vermilion parishes.
The schools honored are Caneview Elementary in Iberia Parish, Cecil Picard Elementary in Vermilion Parish, Early College Academy in Lafayette Parish, Haynes Academy in Jefferson Parish, Mulberry Elementary in Terrebonne Parish, South Live Oak Elementary in Livingston Parish, St. Dominic School in the New Orleans Archdiocese, and St. Jude School in the Baton Rouge Diocese.
“These schools have demonstrated a clear and consistent commitment to educational excellence,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “It’s an honor to recognize the hard work and leadership of these students, educators, and families.”
Louisiana nominated these eight schools as 2025 National Blue Ribbon Schools. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) had previously encouraged states to recognize their 2025 nominees after the national program was discontinued earlier this year. The LDOE is working with each school as they plan celebrations at their campuses.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools program was previously administered by the U.S. Department of Education and state departments of education, with criteria set for “High Performing” and “Achievement Gap Closing” schools based on state assessment results. After the federal program ended, states were encouraged to develop their own recognition programs that align with their educational goals.
Louisiana continues to offer several recognition programs for schools, educators, and students. These include Models of Excellence, Teacher and Principal of the Year (in partnership with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association of Principals), Early Childhood Teacher and Leader of the Year, New Teacher of the Year, Students of the Year, Outstanding School Support Employee, and the Public Interest Fellowship (in partnership with the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education). A full list of recognition programs is available on the LDOE awards webpage.
