Governor Josh Shapiro visited Erie's Bayfront to announce new investments aimed at supporting local businesses and creating jobs in the region. The Governor revealed plans to allocate $9.5 million from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) for the Market House, a 27,000-square-foot marketplace intended for local businesses and artisans.

Shapiro was joined by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll, Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, and other local officials. They provided an update on the Bayfront Parkway Improvement Project, which is a more than $162 million infrastructure project designed to reconnect downtown Erie with its waterfront while improving safety and mobility for residents and visitors.

Additionally, the Governor highlighted a $121,740 PA SITES planning grant that will be used to prepare the 160-acre McKean Business Park for industrial and commercial development in hopes of attracting new employers and expanding economic opportunities in the area.

Shapiro also reiterated his administration's support for the City Revitalization Improvement Zone (CRIZ) designation approved for Erie last year. This designation allows targeted state support for economic development projects throughout the city.

"My Administration is all in on Erie," said Governor Shapiro. "We're investing in the roads, the sites, and the communities that make this region strong - because when Erie grows, Pennsylvania grows. By connecting downtown to the Bayfront, supporting local businesses, and preparing new sites for development, we're ensuring this community's success every step of the way. I believe in the people of Erie and the future of this great city - and these investments will revitalize downtown, attract visitors, and keep Erie growing stronger for years to come."

The event included remarks from several officials: Governor Josh Shapiro; Mike Carroll, Secretary of PA Department of Transportation; Rick Siger, Secretary of PA Department of Community and Economic Development; Roger Richards from Erie County Convention Center Authority Board; Mayor Joe Schember of Erie; Representative Patrick Harkins from Pennsylvania's 1st House District; and T.J. Sandell, President of Great Lakes Building and Construction Trades Council.
