Nine students and three school bus drivers were recognized for their achievements in school bus safety during a ceremony at the State Museum of Pennsylvania. The event was organized by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and school bus safety advocates.
The ceremony was part of School Bus Safety Week and underscored efforts by the Shapiro Administration to ensure student safety during school transportation. Dios Arroyo, PennDOT Director of Driver Licensing, stated, "With another school year underway, school buses have returned to our roadways, and the Shapiro Administration is focused on getting young Pennsylvanians to and from school safely. School Bus Safety Week is an opportunity for everyone to pause and realize just how much our own actions behind the wheel can affect innocent young lives."
The event included recognition for nine students who created posters promoting school bus safety and three drivers honored for their driving skills. Speakers at the event included Craig Yetter, Community Relations Coordinator for Driver and Vehicle Services; Dios Arroyo; Corporal Zeina Black from the Pennsylvania State Police; and Aaron Sepkowski, President of the Pennsylvania School Bus Association.
The competition and poster contest are part of ongoing efforts by state agencies and partners to raise awareness about school bus safety and encourage responsible driving behavior around school buses.
