Dr. Maria Murray President & CEO | The Reading League
The Reading League, a nonprofit organization focused on evidence-based reading instruction, has announced the launch of its Curriculum Navigation Reports. These reports are designed to help educators and decision makers evaluate and select reading curricula that align with scientific research.
The Curriculum Navigation Reports provide summaries of in-depth reviews of some of the most widely used reading curricula in the United States. Unlike other curriculum reviews, these reports are based on The Reading League’s Curriculum Evaluation Guidelines, which are derived from scientific research. The reports also identify "red flag" practices that may hinder student progress.
Dr. Maria Murray, President and CEO of The Reading League, highlighted the importance of the new resource. She said, “For too long, educators have lacked a reliable resource to help them discern the full scope of evidence-aligned practices in reading curricula. This resource will remedy this long-standing absence.”
The first set of reports will be available on May 1, 2024, through The Reading League Compass, which is a national repository for guidance and resources on evidence-aligned reading instruction.
The reports are intended to help educators, schools, districts, and state education agencies prioritize evidence-based practices when choosing instructional materials. They also serve as a template for understanding where additional support may be needed to improve reading instruction. The reports are the result of years of research and collaboration with experts in education, literacy, and curriculum.
To mark the release of the Curriculum Navigation Reports, The Reading League will host a free virtual ribbon-cutting event on May 1, 2024. The event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST and will include a presentation by educational leaders as well as an optional tour of the reports.
