Josh Shapiro, Governor | Pennsylvania Government
The Shapiro Administration has invested $130,000 to plant 700 trees along Orson Run in York County. The effort is aimed at reducing runoff, improving local water quality, and protecting the Chesapeake Bay. The tree planting took place on a dairy farm within the Muddy Creek watershed, which is a tributary of the Susquehanna River leading into the Chesapeake Bay.
Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn participated in the event alongside Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay CEO Kate Fritz and other local stakeholders.
"Every tree we plant is a step toward cleaner water, healthier farms, and a better future for our children," said Secretary Dunn. "These streamside forests protect our waterways, support wildlife, and give farmers a new tool to care for their land. It's inspiring to see so many partners come together to make a lasting difference for this farm, the Susquehanna River, and the Chesapeake Bay."
Other speakers at the event included State Forester Seth Cassell; Alliance for Chesapeake Bay CEO Kate Fritz; DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn; and Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Senior Forests Projects Manager Ryan Davis.
