Josh Shapiro, Governor | Pennsylvania Government
Governor Josh Shapiro is set to announce new measures aimed at supporting Pennsylvania’s charitable food network. This action comes after the Trump Administration decided to freeze November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Earlier in the week, Governor Shapiro joined 24 other states and the District of Columbia in a lawsuit against the Trump Administration. The lawsuit challenges what it describes as an unlawful suspension of SNAP payments and criticizes the refusal to use billions in contingency funds approved by Congress to keep SNAP running during the shutdown. According to state officials, this decision affects 42 million Americans, including nearly two million residents of Pennsylvania.
The announcement will take place on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Philabundance in Philadelphia. Governor Shapiro will be joined by Secretary Russell Redding from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Julie Bancroft, CEO of Feeding PA, and Loree Jones-Brown, CEO of Philabundance.
