Wes Moore Governor | Maryland Department Of Education
The Maryland State Board of Education is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, November 4, at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building in Baltimore. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held in the Board Room on the seventh floor.
One of the main topics on the agenda is a review of the Maryland School Report Card results for the 2024–2025 academic year. The discussion aims to assess progress toward statewide education goals and ongoing efforts to achieve equitable outcomes for all students.
Additionally, the Board plans to recognize seven schools that were nominated as Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools prior to changes in federal recognition by the U.S. Department of Education earlier this year. According to officials, "The newly reinstated program honors exemplary student performance on national and state assessments, in addition to schools’ progress in narrowing achievement gaps among student groups."
Other updates during the meeting will cover comprehensive health education across all grades, support for student reading initiatives, and library media services. The Board also intends to provide information about workforce development programs such as Maryland Works and Career Connected Learning.
A stakeholder engagement session is also planned with representatives from both the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation and the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
Public comment will be accepted both in person and virtually during the meeting. Participation is limited to 15 individuals—10 in the morning session and five in the afternoon—on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes Friday, October 31 at 11:59 p.m., with speakers allotted three minutes each.
