Missouri public schools have shown progress in meeting statewide standards, according to the Annual Performance Reports (APRs) released by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for the 2024-25 school year. The APRs reflect the ongoing efforts of educators, students, parents, and community members to achieve the goals set out in the sixth version of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6).

Commissioner of Education Dr. Karla Eslinger stated, “The more rigorous expectations of MSIP 6 are making a difference. These results reflect the support of Missouri public schools from our business and industry leaders, and our strong families and communities. I am proud of our school leaders and educators. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.”

Among the findings from this year's data:

- Over 92 percent of public school students in Missouri attend schools that meet or exceed state expectations.

- More than 310 public schools reported higher APR scores in 2025 compared to 2024.

- The state's attendance rate, graduation rate, and Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores continue to rise.

- English Language Arts MAP scores saw slight gains across most grade levels.

- Mathematics MAP scores improved overall except for grades 4 and 5.

Dr. Eslinger added, “Although the trendline shows slow and steady progress, there is still work to do. We know that ambition is the path to success, but success is only achieved through persistence. We remain diligent in working with our school systems until every child reaches their potential.”

The MSIP serves as Missouri’s method for evaluating public school performance and determining district classifications. It sets expectations for both educational practices and student results with an aim that all students graduate prepared for further education or entering a career. DESE uses several years’ worth of data before making recommendations on classification status. This year’s APR will not be used to lower any district's classification.

Guidance on how to access detailed APR data is available through DESE resources online, including step-by-step instructions for viewing reports on its MSIP 6 webpage.
