Nicole Murray-Lewis, a social studies teacher at James H. Blake High School in Montgomery County Public Schools, has been elected as the teacher member of the State Board of Education. The election took place from November 3 to November 17, with Murray-Lewis receiving 39.9 percent of the 3,624 votes cast.

Murray-Lewis brings 28 years of experience in education to the role. She previously taught for 24 years at Gaithersburg High School and spent four years working in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. In 2008, she achieved National Board Certification.

The results of the election are available online. Eligible voters included those holding an active Maryland educator certificate or license as of October 10, 2025.

Murray-Lewis’s appointment will be forwarded to Governor Wes Moore and is subject to confirmation by the State Senate.
