Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced the creation of the Elder Exploitation Section within the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. This new section is intended to strengthen protections for older residents, particularly in cases involving financial theft and fraud.
The announcement was made at the State Capitol Building, where Attorney General Sunday was joined by legislative leaders and representatives from advocacy organizations. The Elder Exploitation Section will focus on cases of financial exploitation, deception, and theft that target seniors. These crimes are often committed by individuals close to the victims, such as relatives, caregivers, or those holding legal authority like conservators or powers of attorney.
"On Tuesday, Attorney General Sunday joined legislative leaders and advocate organizations at the State Capitol Building to formally announce the section's launch."
The event featured several speakers including Jason Kavulich, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging; Wendy Spicher, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities; Senator Wayne Langerholc Jr.; Representative Maureen Madden; and Bill Johnston-Walsh, AARP Pennsylvania State Director.
According to officials, the new section aims to deter financial crimes against seniors and ensure that offenders are held criminally responsible.
