Hourly employees for Jacksboro Independent School District will continue to receive their full wages during the coronavirus shutdown.
The district school board approved a resolution empowering Superintendent Dwaine Milam to continue providing compensation in addition to other responsibilities. Milam told the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette the resolution would help lower anxiety for employees.
“This will relieve a lot of anxiety by our staff members who just don’t know,” he said. “My concern is, and she spells it out in the first page, we have got some really strong hourly folks that have been to a lot training and do a really good job."
The resolution is expected to help the district prevent turnover as employees might seek work elsewhere if they aren't receiving as many hours, Milam said. It would also save the district money and man-hours for training new employees.
Milam also received the power to develop guidelines for paid leave regarding those who might become affected by COVID-19. Should the district need waivers from the Texas Education Agency for missed instructional days or low attendance, Milam will be able to act without board approval. He also has the power to temporarily suspend the Texas Public Information Act, but Milam told the Herald-Gazette he didn't think this would happen.
