A survey conducted by a social network for professionals has found that more than half of Texas students are in attendance during remote classes.
In the survey announced on April 13, Fishbowl, a social network for professionals, said the majority of the 5,659 U.S. teachers polled from April 6 to 9 on the Fishbowl app said less than half of students attend their remote classes.
“With one month of remote and online teaching under their belt, we decided to uncover how the move from in-person instruction has impacted student attendance,” Fishbowl’s findings said. “We asked teachers on Fishbowl one simple question: ‘How many of your students are attending your remote classes?’ Teachers could answer with A.) 0-25%, B.) 26-50%, C.) 51-75% or D.) >75%.”
Of Texas teachers, 50.5% said more than half of students were attending remote classes, the survey said.
Among states with at least 100 teachers responding to the survey, New Jersey had the highest attendance, the survey said. Teachers is the state said 66.7% of students attend the online classes, Fishbowl said.
In his April 17 Executive Order GA-16, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered schools to close for in-person learning through the end of the academic year. Abbott's order also said public education teachers and staff “may return to schools to conduct remote video instruction.”
