El Paso Independent School District issued the following announcement.
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- May 6, 2020) — The Rotary Club of El Paso Foundation awarded 11 EPISD students with a $5,000 Quinn Scholarship last week.
The scholarship fund is in memory of Dorothy Quinn’s parents James and Florence Quinn to provide college scholarships to selected high school seniors on the basis of academic achievement. Dorothy Quinn, a former math teacher at Austin High School, generously bequeathed money to the Rotary Club of El Paso Foundation to administer the granting of the scholarships. Quinn thought the more individuals she could help get started in college, the better it would be for the recipients and the community.
“EPISD is most grateful to the El Paso Rotary for its commitment our EPISD seniors,” said Manuel Castruita, director of Counseling and Advising. “I also would like to extend a heartfelt note of appreciation for everyone involved in collaborating with our students to get those applications submitted in spite of the challenges posed by our current situation.”
The primary goal of establishing the Quinn Scholarship is to help deserving high school students to further their education in a manner that fulfills the wishes of Dorothy Quinn, the benefactor of the program.
