The CDC has released new guidelines on how schools can safety reopen amid COVID-19.
The CDC website reports schools can promote social distancing by spacing desks at least six feet apart, adding physical indicators such as tape on the ground to ensure the distance of six feet is maintained and installing physical barrier areas where it's difficult to social distance.
Students and staff should be encouraged to frequently wash their hands, follow proper respiratory etiquette, wear cloth face coverings when they can’t socially distance and stay home if they are sick or have come into close contact with someone who has the coronavirus.
Among other CDC recommendations are cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and discouraging the sharing of items that are hard to clean.
“Schools can determine, in collaboration with state and local health officials to the extent possible, whether and how to implement these considerations while adjusting to meet the unique needs and circumstances of the local community,” the CDC website states. “Implementation should be guided by what is feasible, practical, acceptable and tailored to the needs of each community.”
