Full-time Texas school superintendents average nearly $150,000 a year in pay.
Traditional public schools in Texas have the highest pay rates for superintendents and full-time equivalent (FTE) faculty, according to data released by the Texas Education Agency. Salary information for the 1,031 superintendents at traditional and charter public schools in the state was released as part of the data.
The combined total average pay for all full-time-equivalent superintendents was $148,228,87. For traditional schools, as far as superintendent pay goes, Point Isabel Independent School District (ISD) had the highest level with Theresa Alarcon earning $589,400. Temple ISD’s pay was lowest for traditional schools, with Robert Ott earning $1,500 for a partial year.
As for charter schools, the highest pay for superintendents went to Kipp Texas Public School Superintendent Sehba Ali, who earned $375,000. The lowest pay for public charter school superintendents, potentially an outlier, was Dorothy Marstaller at Waco Charter School, who earned $1.
For non-superintendent employees, the average FTE salary for traditional public schools was higher at $150,186.92. The median was also higher at $130,000.
The average FTE salary for charter schools was $135,577.48 which is lower than both traditional public schools and the combined total. The median FTE salary point was $124,875 which was also lower than both traditional public schools and the combined total.
