Texas Education Association: Superintendent pay per enrolled student averages $241.96

The average per pupil salary for Texas superintendents is nearly $242.

The Texas Education Agency has published the salary profiles of all public-school superintendents and full-time equivalent employees with the combined total average rate of pay per student enrolled (pay/enroll) for both traditional and charter public schools at $241.96, although the total median pay per enrolled student amount is $134.34.

When comparing pay by student enrollment, the highest is Superintendent Eric Stoddard at San Vicente Independent School District, where there are 14 students enrolled. He earned a $133,226 full-time equivalent salary, or $9,516.14 per enrolled student. 

At the other end of the spectrum, Superintendent Dorothy Marstaller, at Waco Charter School, had a salary of $1. There are 244 students at Waco Charter School, meaning Marstaller’s pay per enrolled student was basically $0.

Superintendent pay tends to be higher at traditional public schools as well.

San Vicente ISD topped the chart for pay per enrolled student, but Temple Independent School District hit the low mark – Superintendent Robert Ott earns only 17 cents per student and there are 8,720 students enrolled in his district. 

For other staff members pay per enrolled student is lower at traditional public schools was $231.95, and the median was $128.96.

At charter schools the highest pay per enrolled student went to Tanis Stanfield at Comquest Academy. His $173,000 salary worked out to $3,145.45 per student, and there are 55 students. The low mark remained Waco Charter School.

The average pay/enroll for charter schools was $298.26, higher than both traditional public schools and the combined total. The median pay/enroll point was $175.88 which was also higher than both traditional public schools and the combined total.
