Coppell Independent School District issued the following announcement.

Dear CISD Community,

Earlier today (Nov. 11), Coppell ISD announced that after much consideration and deliberation, we have decided that CHS9 and CHS will be temporarily moving to remote learning only from Thursday, Nov. 12, through Wednesday, Nov. 18.

We feel that this is in the best interest of these two schools, which are experiencing our highest numbers of positive COVID-19 cases and quarantined students and staff. Making this decision was extremely challenging, as we are committed to providing our families with the choice of in person or remote learning for this school year. After meetings with CISD administrators and Dallas County Health and Human Services, as well evaluating the high number of students and staff in quarantine at these two schools, along with the increasing number of positive cases and the limited number of substitutes to provide instruction, we knew this transition was needed.

Aside from makeup volleyball games and an outdoor band competition, everything at CHS9 and CHS will be remote from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18. This includes remote learners who may only come in person for athletics, fine arts and other classes.

In person learning will resume on Thursday, Nov. 19.

CHS9 and CHS students will bring home any necessary supplies or instructions from school today, Wednesday, Nov. 11. As a reminder, in person learners can switch to remote learning at any time by contacting your school principal or assistant principal and requesting this change.

The Texas Education Agency has given schools and school districts the option to move to all remote learning for five school days without any impact on funding. TEA is still requiring school districts to provide an in person school option for families once these five days are complete. We have made the decision to move to remote learning for these two campuses only. New Tech High @ Coppell and Victory Place will continue to offer in person learning, as will all of our middle and elementary school campuses.

We ask all of our students and families to continue to wear masks, practice social distancing when possible and avoid social gatherings that may cause you to be exposed to COVID-19 during this time. We must remain vigilant during this time to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Thank you,

CISD Administration
