Coppell Independent School District issued the following announcement.
Dear CISD Families,
As we all know, COVID-19 cases are increasing nationwide, in Texas and in Dallas, and in our surrounding counties. They are also on the rise in our district. We are in constant communication with the Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), and we are working together to make the best decisions for our district and community. We also continue to follow the protocols in our Return to School Guide, available at www.coppellisd.com/returntoschool, and all of our campuses and buildings remain operating according to these policies, procedures and guidelines.
With the increase in COVID cases, we need your ongoing help to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in our district. We all must continue to follow Governor Abbott’s order to wear masks or cloth face coverings and practice social distancing. In addition, we must follow the advice of our local public health officials and limit social gatherings, try to maintain a social distance, which means being 6 feet apart, and wear our masks when out in public.
Currently, we have a number of students and employees out on quarantine for being a close contact of an active COVID case. Our COVID-19 Case managers investigate every active COVD-19 case and determine close contacts based on the CDC criteria, which is:
Being within 6 feet of someone for 15 minutes (cumulative) with or without wearing a mask, including eating in the same room less than 6 feet apart; or
Having direct physical contact, touching, hugging or kissing; or
Having an infected individual cough or sneeze on you.
While active COVID-19 cases go into isolation for 10 days from the onset of symptoms, which typically occur prior to a positive test, close contacts, as defined above, must quarantine for 14 days from the last day of an exposure. Here is a link to a CDC document that explains the difference between isolation and quarantine, which is important for everyone to understand: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/COVID-19-Quarantine-vs-Isolation.pdf
A negative COVID-19 test does not affect a quarantine period, as close contacts must quarantine for 14 days, because they are at risk for COVID-19 throughout this time.
Finally, there are a few additional reminders we would like to bring to your attention:
If you have a student who is currently an in-person learner, you may switch him/her to a remote learner at any time. This can be requested through your campus principal or assistant principal.
We have created a Student Daily Home Screening Checklist we encourage you to use each and every day before sending your child(ren) to school.
Watch for these symptoms of COVID-19:
Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
Loss of taste or smell
Cough
Difficulty breathing
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Headache
Chills
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Shaking or exaggerated shivering
Significant muscle pain or ache
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
If your child begins experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, keep your child at home, contact your physician and contact your school nurse who can assist you with your next steps.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email us at input@coppellisd.com
Sincerely,
CISD Administration
