The Texas Home School Coalition (THSC) has introduced three homeschool graduates who will serve as state legislative analysts and lobbyists, working with the legislature on behalf of the families whose children are homeschooled in the state of Texas.

These graduates are known as the THSC Watchmen, and this year, the team includes Ansley Brent, who is passionate about protecting the rights of homeschooling families. Brent is a homeschool graduate who enjoys learning about Christian philosophy, political theory and economics. She was born and raised in Central Texas; Jayla Ward was homeschooled through her entire academic career, and was raised in North Texas. She participated in TeenPact and NCFCA speech and debate. It was an internship with the First Liberty Institute that led to her interest in public policy and advocating for homeschooling families’ rights.

The final member of the THSC Watchmen is Quincy Tredway, a Fort Worth resident who was homeschooled for most of his life. Tredway is passionate about protecting the right to homeschool for Texas families, after experiencing enormous benefit from his homeschool education.

During the state legislative session that convenes this month, the trio will work in Austin full time. They will research, write and amend state legislation, with an aim toward promotion of family freedom and homeschooling. Part of their purpose is to raise support from state legislators and their staff, raise public awareness about homeschooling, and increase homeschool students’ participation in the political process.

The Texas Homeschool Coalition has worked to maintain families’ rights to raise and educate children since 1986. The nonprofit organization and its associated coalition strive to encourage homeschoolers during difficult times by passing along a vision that includes the benefits of home education; to promote and market the homeschooling and family rights in the state to the general public; and to assist widows, disabled individuals, and the minority homeschool community.
