Round Rock Independent School District issued the following announcement.

Round Rock ISD Elementary School 35 will open in the Fall of 2021 and is located on the northeast side of Round Rock at 1500 Ty Cobb Place. The school was approved by voters in the 2018 Bond to provide space for the growing student population and relieve overcrowding at Herrington Elementary School.

To make a name nomination, community members must complete the official nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Elementary School 35 will be named according to Round Rock ISD Board Policy CW (Local) which states:

A school facility may not be named after any living individual. A school facility may be named for any individual who has been deceased for a minimum of one year and who has historical significance for the community, state or nation.

The location of the school facility may be used as a recommended name.

School name recommendations will be studied by a committee consisting of seven citizens of the District, one selected by each of the seven Board members, one Board member appointed by the Board President, and one District administrator appointed by the Acting Superintendent of Schools. The committee will be responsible for the authenticity of the recommended names.

The naming committee will report the recommended name(s) to the Board of Trustees as a discussion item at the March 2021 regular Board of Trustees meeting. The Board will adopt a name for Elementary School 35 at the April 2021 regular Board of Trustees meeting.
