The Maine Department of Education (DOE) has introduced an AI Guidance Toolkit aimed at schools and educators. The Office of Teaching and Learning within the DOE developed this resource to provide practical tools, real-world scenarios, and learning opportunities that support ethical, responsible, and effective use of artificial intelligence in education. The toolkit is rooted in digital citizenship and computer science principles.
The toolkit was created with input from Maine educators and stakeholders to ensure it meets the state's educational needs. It includes a framework for shaping district policies, promoting ethical AI use, and enhancing understanding of AI applications.
To facilitate the use of this resource, the Maine DOE will conduct learning sessions hosted by its Learning Through Technology Team. Nicole Davis, the Emerging Technology Specialist for the team, will lead these sessions. They are scheduled for February 25 at 3 p.m., February 28 at 8 a.m., March 3 at 4 p.m., and March 6 at 8 a.m. Registration links are available online.
For those unable to attend live sessions, recordings will be made available on the Maine DOE’s YouTube channel. Questions about the toolkit can be directed to Nicole Davis via email.
