The Utah Association of Secondary School Principals (UASSP) has announced the recipients of the 2025 Secondary School Principals of the Year awards. The announcement was made at the UASSP Mid-Winter Conference, where State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson presented the awards.
The awardees include Shauna Haney from Ogden High School, who began her teaching career in 1994 and has held various roles including special education teacher and assistant athletic director. She became principal of Ogden High School in 2020.
Matthew Patterson, principal of Mountain View Junior High in Weber School District, was recognized as Middle Level Principal of the Year. With 22 years in education, Patterson is noted for his commitment to fostering relationships and supporting students and staff.
Jared Christensen from Delta High School received the award for high school assistant principal. He has been an educator for 15 years and has served as an assistant principal at Delta High School for five years.
ConnieTrue Simons from Midvale Middle School was named Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year. She started her teaching career in 2000 and has been an assistant principal for six years.
These principals will present at the UASSP Summer Conference and will be honored at a future Utah State Board of Education meeting as well as by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in Washington DC later this year.
