The Teacher Freedom Alliance has declared that the Department of Education has lost its credibility due to union influence, a lack of accountability, and a failure to uphold public trust. The organization announced on X on February 4 that it believes the dissolution of the department is necessary.
According to a Pew Research Center survey, 51% of U.S. adults feel that K-12 education is headed in the wrong direction. The survey highlights concerns such as a lack of focus on core subjects (69%), teachers bringing personal views into classrooms (54%), and insufficient funding (52%). Political divides are evident, with 65% of Republicans and 40% of Democrats saying the system is failing. Additionally, 82% of public school teachers believe K-12 education has worsened over the past five years.
As per Teacher Tapp, disbanding the U.S. Department of Education is not popular among teachers, with only 22% in favor and 78% opposed. There remains strong resistance to decentralizing education policy despite ongoing political discussions. These statistics suggest that most educators see federal oversight as necessary for maintaining standards and funding.
According to MyPayMySay, union dues can be used for political purposes even if individual members disagree with the union's agenda. Many teachers are reportedly unaware that part of their dues may fund lobbying efforts, political campaigns, and ideological initiatives.
