The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has announced the semifinalists for the Teacher and Principal of the Year awards, along with finalists for Early Childhood Teacher and Leader of the Year and New Teacher of the Year. This recognition aims to honor educators who have shown exceptional dedication to their students' success.

"Louisiana’s educators play a vital role in shaping the future of students and our state," said Dr. Cade Brumley, Louisiana State Superintendent of Education. "These outstanding teachers, principals, and early childhood leaders exemplify excellence in education and a deep commitment to student success. We are proud to celebrate their achievements."

Each year, in collaboration with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association of Principals, LDOE recognizes exceptional educators through these awards. The programs aim to highlight those who make significant gains with students and serve as community role models.

The list includes semifinalists for Teacher of the Year from various parishes such as Allen Parish's Heather Cross from Fairview High School, Ascension Parish's Tante Poche' from Gonzales Middle School, among others. Principal of the Year semifinalists include Dr. Corey Crochet from Assumption High School in Assumption Parish and Jennifer Burris from Benton Intermediate School in Bossier Parish.

For Early Childhood Teacher and Leader awards, finalists include Ana Qassem from Belle Chasse Primary (Head Start) in Plaquemines Parish for Teacher of the Year, while Delishia Wilson from Building Blocks Early Learning Center in Tangipahoa Parish is a finalist for Leader of the Year.

The New Teacher of the Year program acknowledges first-year classroom teachers demonstrating outstanding instructional skills. Finalists are categorized into elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Finalists for Louisiana Teacher and Principal of the Year will be announced in May. The overall honorees will be revealed at the 19th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Gala scheduled for July.
