Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker expressed her approval following the Connecticut General Assembly's confirmation of Governor Ned Lamont’s nominees to the State Board of Education on March 5, 2025. The newly confirmed members include Dr. Gladys B. Labas and Paula S. Gilberto, along with high school seniors Sreenidi Bala and Sophia Messina, who will continue as non-voting student members until the end of the school year.

Commissioner Russell-Tucker stated, “I am pleased to welcome the new members to the State Board of Education.” She emphasized that their "extensive experience in educational leadership, bilingual and English learner instruction, family and community engagement, workforce development, and nonprofit leadership" would be key in shaping Connecticut's educational future. She added confidence that Dr. Labas and Mrs. Gilberto would help achieve the board’s goals for student preparedness.

The new members will join current board members including Vice Chairperson Erin D. Benham, Donald F. Harris, Kristin Record, Dr. Juan Salazar, Dr. Seth Zimmerman, Bonnie Burr, Terrence Cheng, Christina Bentz, and Kellie-Marie Vallieres at their next meeting scheduled for April 2, 2025.
