On Tuesday, educational leaders from across New Hampshire gathered for the state's inaugural Day of AI Education Summit. The event took place at NHTI in Concord, drawing approximately 100 participants eager to explore the potential of artificial intelligence in education.

Jeffrey C. Riley, Senior Advisor at Day of AI and former Massachusetts Commissioner of Education, highlighted the significance of the summit: "The Day of AI is significant because it gives educators a chance to explore artificial intelligence in a way that is engaging, accessible and relevant to their everyday lives." He emphasized New Hampshire's leadership in embracing technology for educational advancement.

Day of AI offers free resources such as tools, curriculum materials, assessments, and professional development opportunities for teachers. These are developed by MIT’s Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (RAISE) initiative. The summit aimed to equip educators with knowledge on effectively integrating AI into learning environments.

Frank Edelblut, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education, noted: “Navigating AI will present challenges for educators and students. New Hampshire’s Day of AI Education Summit equips our educators to help students successfully navigate these exciting and uncertain waters ahead.” He elaborated on how AI could revolutionize education by assisting teachers with tasks like creating personalized assignments and saving time on routine duties.

Participants attended three workshop sessions: Demystifying AI for Educators; Fair and Responsible AI in Education; How Do We Develop Students’ AI Literacy? Shay Cassily from Winnacunnet Cooperative School District expressed appreciation for the opportunity to discuss important issues such as plagiarism and data privacy laws: “What this event has given me are some tools to get the conversation started with different stakeholders back in our district.”

The workshops were led by Dr. Randi Williams, Matt Taylor, Angela Marzilli, Daniella DiPaola, Jorge Gallardo, and Valerie Brock from Day of AI or RAISE.
