Aruna K. Miller 10th Lieutenant Governor of the state of Maryland | Maryland Department Of Education
The Maryland State Board of Education is set to convene on Tuesday, March 25, at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building in Baltimore. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and take place in the State Board Room on the seventh floor.
One of the key agenda items is the consideration of a PreK-12 Comprehensive Mathematics Policy proposed by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). This policy aims to establish a structured math program that enhances students' understanding and fluency in mathematical concepts and skills. It seeks to align teaching practices with these goals to better prepare students for real-world applications, higher education, careers, and life. The policy has undergone revisions following public hearings and meetings held earlier this year.
Additionally, the board will review a revised College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standard. This standard introduces more criteria options for students before and after grade 10 who are pursuing various post-secondary pathways. These include advanced coursework, career and technical education courses, college entrance assessments, among other methods.
The meeting will also highlight student performances as part of Arts in Our Schools Month and discuss teaching career pathways for displaced federal public servants.
Public participation is encouraged both in-person and virtually during these meetings. Registration is capped at 15 individuals on a first-come, first-served basis—10 slots are available in the morning session and five in the afternoon. If maximum capacity is reached, additional participants may join a waiting list. Registration opens on Monday before the meeting date and closes on Friday at 11:59 p.m., with confirmed registrants being notified accordingly. Each speaker is allotted three minutes for comments.
The full agenda can be accessed online along with a livestream of the proceedings which will also be available on YouTube.
