The Governor of Rhode Island, Dan McKee, in conjunction with Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education, announced that two high school students have been selected as state delegates for the 2025 National Youth Science Camp. The chosen students, Milo Baumgartner from East Greenwich High School and Sadie McCann from North Kingstown High School, have been recognized for their excellence in STEM research and leadership roles within their schools.

Governor McKee expressed pride in the selection of the delegates, stating, “Milo and Sadie’s selection as the Ocean State’s delegates to the prestigious NYSCamp makes all of us across the state very proud.” He emphasized the importance of STEM education for workforce success and commended the students and their communities.

The camp, established in 1963 and held in West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest, offers a chance for two students from each state to engage with leading scientists and professionals. It includes a wide range of activities such as a science policy panel, lectures, and seminars focused on STEM disciplines.

Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green noted the students’ dedication, saying, “Milo and Sadie’s passion and drive for science serve as an inspiration for many across the state.” She celebrated their accomplishments and expressed best wishes for their future endeavors.

Board of Education Chair Michael Grey also extended his congratulations, underscoring the significance of their academic and community involvement. Patti DiCenso, Chair of the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education, lauded the honorees for their inspiration in the STEM field.

Milo Baumgartner has achieved success through various science courses, including advanced placement classes and participation in the All Course Network. He has served in leadership roles such as the leader of Science Olympiad and vice president of the National Honor Society at his high school. He intends to study aerospace engineering.

East Greenwich High School Principal Dr. Patricia Page praised Baumgartner, saying, "Milo’s selection to the National Youth Science Camp is a testament to the power of student-driven learning."

Sadie McCann, driven by her interest in science, has been active in the Engineering Career and Technical Education program at her school and participated in initiatives like the Girls Get Math program at Brown University and the Rhode Island Nano-Bio Engineering Academy. She is involved in robotics and the Technology Student Association.

North Kingstown Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Duva spoke highly of McCann’s achievements, stating, “Sadie McCann’s selection as one of Rhode Island’s delegates for the National Youth Science Camp is a well-deserved honor.”

The National Youth Science Camp for 2025 is scheduled for July, and additional details can be accessed on the National Youth Science Academy's website.
