Austin A. Davis 35th Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania | Pennsylvania Department Of Education

Pennsylvania's Department of Aging is setting a new level of public transparency with its Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). This initiative is highlighting improvements in compliance rates and offering a more supportive working approach with the agencies. Specifically, the focus is on how these efforts have led Westmoreland County's AAA to achieve an almost perfect compliance rate in older adult protective services.

Secretary Jason Kavulich of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging will be present along with Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging's Executive Director, Carrie Nelson, as well as other local leaders, to elaborate on these advancements. Kavulich noted the enhanced approach: "This is just one example of how the Department's new approach of working supportively with AAAs - to ensure they have the tools they need to improve - is generating measurable results across the AAA network."

The Department has been working on modernizing its interaction and monitoring of the state's 52 AAAs. Last month, a crucial development involved the overhaul of the CAPE system, which is now geared to increase transparency and hold agencies accountable for their performance. As part of this overhaul, performance results for the first group of monitored AAAs will be publicly available on the Department's website.

This initiative and its results will be announced at a gathering tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging located at 200 S. Main St, Greensburg.

Media planning to attend the event are asked to RSVP by contacting agingcomms@pa.gov.
