The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary, Rick Siger, announced a state investment of $21 million in GSK, a global biopharmaceutical company. This investment is part of an $800 million expansion project by GSK, first announced by Governor Josh Shapiro in October. The project is expected to create at least 200 new jobs and retain 4,622 existing positions. It also aims to boost the life sciences sector within the state.
GSK is enhancing its research, development, and manufacturing capabilities at its Lancaster County site by constructing new facilities for the production of vaccines and medicines. Currently, vaccines from GSK's Marietta location are administered to one in four Americans, a figure set to rise with the expansion of the location's size and capacity.
GSK will also maintain its U.S. headquarters in Philadelphia and keep at least 4,622 jobs across Pennsylvania.
The speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony included Matteo Leardini, Site Director at GSK; Regis Simard, President of the Global Supply Chain at GSK; Rudy Rosolen, Senior Vice President of Vaccines Manufacturing at GSK; and Rick Siger, Secretary of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.
