Governor Josh Shapiro visited small businesses in downtown Lancaster to emphasize the impact of his administration’s investments in Main Street Matters projects. These initiatives aim to revitalize local economies, create jobs, and have allocated more than $1.2 million to Lancaster County. This is part of a broader $20 million state investment included in the 2024-25 bipartisan budget, designed to support small businesses and strengthen communities throughout Pennsylvania.
Governor Shapiro, highlighting his commitment to small business support, stated, "Every community in our Commonwealth rural, urban, or suburban has a Main Street, and I've seen firsthand how critical they are to local economies. Our Main Streets are the beating hearts of towns and cities, and their success is directly tied to the small businesses that line them. That's why my Administration has made investing in our Main Streets a priority, and we're delivering a historic amount of support for projects across Pennsylvania."
Amidst concerns over new federal tariffs that might increase costs for Pennsylvania families and businesses, the governor expressed his focus on cost-cutting and investing in local communities. "Every Main Street matters and I'll continue bringing people together to invest in and improve our communities. While the federal government is raising taxes and costs through harmful tariffs, my Administration is cutting costs and investing in places like downtown Lancaster to ensure every business has the support it needs to thrive," he added.
The event included remarks from Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace, Marshall Snively, President of the Lancaster City Alliance, local business owner Laura Haiges of BellaBoo, and Representative Ismail Smith-Wade-El.
