The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is working to reinstate a previously granted extension to use funds from the Education Stabilization Fund. This follows an announcement from U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon that the liquidation period for these funds has ended, effective as of March 28, 2025.

In 2024, KSDE received permission to extend the use of its remaining Education Stabilization Fund resources until March 28, 2026. These funds, amounting to $22.6 million, were intended for educator training and programs to help students recover learning lost during the pandemic.

KSDE is collaborating with its Kansas delegation and working through the Department’s new process to restore the extension for the remaining funds. As a temporary measure, KSDE has asked its contracted service providers to halt any activities that would lead to additional costs while seeking a resolution.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon's announcement has prompted swift action from KSDE to ensure the intended use of these funds continues without interruption.
