Across New York State, over 400,000 computer-based testing sessions have been submitted by students as of April 11, 2025, according to JP O’Hare, a spokesperson for the New York State Education Department. There have been recent issues with the Grades 3-8 Computer-Based Testing System, causing some students difficulty in logging in.

In response to these issues, the department promptly required its vendor, NWEA, to find a sustainable solution. JP O’Hare stated, "NWEA has provided evidence that a permanent solution has been implemented to avoid further slowdowns." This statement comes after the successful submission of over 150,000 testing sessions on Thursday and Friday without any reported issues, suggesting a return to normal system operations.

The New York State Education Department will keep observing the system's function and provide necessary updates to schools and districts. As a preventative measure, the testing window has been extended by one week until May 23, allowing additional time for schools affected by the earlier slowdowns. The tests will continue to be conducted on the computer-based platform, assuring that "NYSED will ensure that NWEA offers ample support to schools that may require it."
