Seventeen Kansas organizations are participating in the fifth annual Give Back Kansas Challenge, an initiative running from March 31 to May 23, that encourages employer-supported volunteering. This effort is organized by Volunteer Kansas and the Kansas Volunteer Commission to promote employee engagement in community service.
In this challenge, participants can track and report their volunteer hours for a chance to win prizes. Notably, a $1,000 grant from Volunteer Kansas will be awarded to donate to a nonprofit of the winner's choice. This opportunity aims to foster teamwork and strengthen community bonds within the workforce.
Nola Brown, executive director of Volunteer Kansas, expressed enthusiasm for the increased participation: "We’re excited to welcome so many first-time participants this year. It’s inspiring to see businesses recognize the value of volunteering alongside their employees and actively champion community service."
Seventeen employers are taking part in this initiative, including organizations such as Andover Historical Museum, Fidelity Bank in Wichita, and Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. Businesses are categorized based on employee size, and winners will be determined by the highest average volunteer hours per employee.
Jessica Dorsey, executive director of the Kansas Volunteer Commission, emphasized the significance of this event, stating, "We’re thrilled to support employers in motivating their teams to give back. This challenge is a fun, impactful way to connect businesses with local organizations in need of volunteers, and we’re proud to be part of it year after year."
