Governor Mike Kehoe has announced the appointment of four new members to the State Board of Education. The appointees, Michael Matousek, Kenneth "Brooks" Miller Jr., Jon Otto, and Dr. Thomas G. Prater, now await confirmation by the Missouri Senate.

The Commissioner of Education, Karla Eslinger, expressed anticipation in welcoming these new members. “We look forward to welcoming these new members to the State Board and working with them to serve students, educators, and schools statewide,” she stated.

Michael Matousek, from Kansas City, is set to represent the 6th Congressional District. Currently the director of the Government Freight Conference at the American Trucking Association, Matousek succeeds Charlie Shields, whose service and leadership were praised by Commissioner Eslinger.

Kenneth "Brooks" Miller Jr., hailing from Sunrise Beach, fills a seat for the 3rd Congressional District. Miller's professional background includes presidency at Jordan Valley Community Health Center and membership on the Truman State University Board of Governors. His term is until July 1, 2029.

Jon Otto, also from Kansas City, represents the 5th Congressional District. His legal career spans roles at Evergy, Inc., and notable law firms. Commissioner Eslinger acknowledged outgoing board member Carol Hallquist's dedicated service and volunteerism in the education sector.

Dr. Thomas G. Prater, based in Springfield, returns to the board for the 7th Congressional District seat. His extensive service in the medical field and local educational organizations aligns with his ongoing commitment to community development. Prater's tenure extends to July 1, 2031.

The appointments of Matousek, Miller, Otto, and Prater reflect Governor Kehoe's confidence in their capabilities to advance educational policies and governance across Missouri.
