The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Aging have collaborated with officials from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and York County. They are encouraging Pennsylvania residents to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 26.
The initiative, offered by the DEA since 2010, aims to address prescription drug misuse by providing safe ways to dispose of medication. In support of this initiative, the Shapiro Administration provides year-round disposal opportunities through the DDAP's Prescription Drug Take-Back Program.
"Every day is a take-back day in Pennsylvania," noted DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones. "In addition to the DEA's boxes on April 26, there are nearly 900 DDAP drug take-back boxes available throughout Pennsylvania year-round for residents to use, including at buildings throughout the Shapiro Administration," she stated. She emphasized the importance of disposing of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications safely and securely, highlighting it as one of the strongest substance use disorder prevention efforts.
Speakers at the event include Michael Muldrow, York City Police Commissioner; Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Secretary of the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs; Major General John Pippy, Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; Sergeant Logan Brouse of the Pennsylvania State Police; Kara Bowser, Senior Counsel at the Office of Attorney General; and Jonathan Bowman, Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Aging.
