Nominations are now open for the 2026 Vermont Teacher of the Year, encouraging all Vermonters to nominate exemplary educators. The nomination process involves filling out a short form, with the link open until Monday, April 28. "Nominees can be either self-nominated or nominated by someone in their community. Nominated teachers will be able to complete their applications in May."
The Vermont Teacher of the Year Program aims to promote the teaching profession and honor educators who demonstrate exemplary teaching. Caitlin MacLeod-Bluver serves as the current 2025 Teacher of the Year. The recognized Vermont teacher will also be eligible for the National Teacher of the Year selection.
Since its inception in 1964, Vermont has awarded the Teacher of the Year to highlight outstanding educators. The chosen teacher takes on the role of an advocate for the profession and represents Vermont nationally, including participation in Washington, D.C. events. "Additionally, the Teacher of the Year will be honored at the University of Vermont’s Outstanding Teacher Day in the Fall."
The University of Vermont has been honoring exceptional teachers for 40 years through its Outstanding Teacher Day. This event acknowledges educators from various supervisory unions or school districts, allowing them to nominate one teacher at each educational level: elementary, middle, secondary, and technical center.
