Shante' Brown, Deputy Secretary of Child Development and Early Learning | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis and Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Cindy Adams Dunn, visited Limestone Township in Clarion County to mark the expansion of the Piney Rail Corridor. The 24-mile stretch is set to accommodate motorized and non-motorized activities, thanks to a significant $937,900 investment. This funding comes from the DCNR's All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Management Restricted Account Fund and is awarded to Piney Rail Riders, aligning with the goals of the Shapiro-Davis Administration to enhance outdoor recreation and stimulate rural economic development across the state.
Lt. Governor Davis emphasized the administration's commitment by stating, "The Shapiro-Davis Administration is dedicated to supporting our growing $19 billion outdoor recreation industry for the benefits it provides to local communities across the Commonwealth." He highlighted the importance of such investments for providing ATV enthusiasts with "safe, high-quality opportunities to enjoy the outdoors."
The acquisition of the Piney Rail Corridor by Piney Rail Riders guarantees the trail's preservation and utilization. It is expected to boost the local economy and community growth, setting it up as a key site for outdoor recreation in western Pennsylvania. Secretary Dunn commented, "The Piney Rail Corridor is a wonderful example of how strategic investments in outdoor recreation improve quality of life and drive local economic growth."
The event underscored the collaboration of various stakeholders involved in this development. Among the speakers were Kenny Shaffer, VP of Piney Rail Riders, Jessica Funk Seary, Jefferson County Director of Economic Development, Representatives Josh Bashline and Brian Smith, and Clarion County Commissioners Wayne Brosius and Braxton White.
