Vermont education officials announce multiple events and resources for teachers and administrators

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Vermont Teacher of the Year. Any active teacher in Vermont is eligible for nomination, and nominations will remain open until April 28. Teachers chosen for Vermont Teacher of the Year can apply for national recognition. The Agency of Education announced this opportunity to recognize outstanding educators. A gathering for the Rutland Region's Farm to School initiative will occur on May 1 at Rutland City Schools' Allen Street Campus. Organized by the Vermont Farm to School & Early Childhood Network, with funding from the Vermont Agency of Education, this event aims to connect stakeholders involved in farm to school activities. The Vermont Multi-tiered Systems of Support Statewide Survey will be available from May 1 to May 31, a requirement under Vermont law for school principals to complete. This survey will collect information on the best practices of the VTmtss Framework. Tracy Watterson can provide more details regarding this survey.

On May 8 and 9, the Vermont School Safety Center and the Agency of Education have planned workshops focused on Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) Teams. These workshops are designed for current and prospective team members and offer information on building effective BTA programs in accordance with Act 29 (2023). The Burlington School District will host a conference addressing the education of immigrant and refugee students on May 16 and 17. Educators interested in this free event should register, noting that free hotel accommodations are limited. Stephanie Vogel is the designated contact for this event.

Proposals are now being accepted for the Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies' annual conference on November 20 in Montpelier. Participants are encouraged to submit suggestions for breakout sessions, with the theme identified as “Recognizing the 250th and Envisioning What's Next.” Contact Martha Deiss for further proposal details.

The BEST Project is organizing a Crisis Prevention and Intervention training session on April 29 at the Franklin Events Center in Rutland. The training, which includes certification and refresher courses, aims to teach techniques to handle escalating crises safely.
