Secretary Rick Siger from the Department of Community and Economic Development, along with local leaders, paid a visit to Atlas Biotech in State College to emphasize the Shapiro Administration's commitment to Pennsylvania's innovation economy. Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed a 2025-2026 budget that includes a new $50 million PA Innovation program aimed at the development of life sciences and innovation within the state.
Secretary Siger highlighted Atlas Biotech as an example of innovation within Pennsylvania, noting their research and development in cancer treatment. "The Shapiro Administration is laser-focused on advancing Pennsylvania's innovation economy, and Atlas Biotech is a great example of the kind of cutting-edge research and development happening in the Commonwealth, finding new ways to treat cancer and save lives," Siger stated. He added that Pennsylvania has resources such as world-class research institutions and a skilled workforce that can enable the state to lead in innovation.
The proposed budget allocates a one-time $30 million fund to encourage life sciences job growth and $20 million for annual support of large-scale innovation projects. This fund intends to back businesses that contribute to saving lives and bolstering the economy.
Speakers at the event included Todd Erdley, Central Region Director; Secretary Rick Siger; Representative Takac; Representative Conklin; and Josh Reynolds.
