Vermont is seeking public input for its new "Sister State" program, which aims to establish formal partnerships with up to five foreign countries or regions. This initiative, created by the Vermont Legislature, seeks to enhance cultural exchange, economic collaboration, and educational ties while promoting mutual understanding. According to the program's framework, the partnerships will foster peace, human rights, and environmental sustainability and support Vermont’s immigrant and refugee communities by connecting them with their countries of origin.
The Vermont Sister State Working Group is now conducting a statewide survey to inventory existing international outreach and exchange activities. The collected data will help refine program criteria and identify key stakeholders and potential partners. Survey participation offers several incentives, including a chance to win a Municipal-General Membership with the Vermont Council on World Affairs and discounts on international educational programs.
Completing the survey is estimated to take 10-15 minutes, contributing significantly to global collaboration efforts. Participation could shape Vermont’s international profile and support various community initiatives.
