Governor Josh Shapiro visited the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department to express gratitude to first responders for their work and highlight key proposals in his 2025-26 budget, which aims to strengthen fire companies and prevent disasters.

Firefighters in Pennsylvania, both professional and volunteer, continue to protect communities despite declining numbers. Governor Shapiro is advocating for more state support to provide the necessary equipment, personnel, and resources to build safer communities.

Having witnessed the bravery of firefighters firsthand, Shapiro and his family joined Chef Robert Irvine and the Robert Irvine Foundation at the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire Station 1 to thank firefighters for their response to an arson attack at the Governor's Residence. Shapiro also engaged with firefighters at the Bethlehem Fire Department in Lehigh County.

The event included speeches from various officials, such as Mt. Lebanon Fire Chief Kurt Christofel, Ralph Sicuro of Pittsburgh Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, Congressman Chris Deluzio, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, Senator Wayne Fontana, and Representatives Dan Miller and Abigail Salisbury.
